Farmers have been asked to be alert to accident risks over the Easter holidays when families, including children, visit their farms, writes Sean MacConnell. So far this year three children have died in accidents on Irish farms. Last year 26 people died on farms in the Republic, 11 more than in the previous year.

There has been growing concern at the number of children who have been killed on farms in recent years, and yesterday the Irish Farmers' Association warned farmers to take extra care throughout the holiday period.
