An area of Dublin Airport has been nicknamed "millionaires' corridor" after a syndicate of 17 airport authority employees scooped last Saturday's €6.4 million lottery jackpot.

The group of nine woman and eight men, who wish to remain anonymous, won last weekend's lottery draw after buying a €112 quick-pick at the Spar shop in Terminal One.

A Dublin Airport Authority spokesman said the employees are "absolutely thrilled" at the windfall. Each member of the syndicate getting just over €375,000.

"There's a tremendous amount of goodwill from people. Everyone is very happy for them. I'm sure there are some people who would have loved to have been in that group," she said.

"There's a real sense of shock and delight among them. It's a fantastic way to start the week."

The winners have worked in the airport for a varied amount of time; some are relatively new, while others have been there for over 30 years.

"Some of the winners are engaged, so [the money] will be a very welcome boost for their wedding plans," the spokeswoman said. "I've been working hear 29 years and it's the first significant win the airport has had. It's great."
