Rome - Italian prosecutors are to open an inquiry into a warning letter sent by a prisoner months before the EgyptAir crash. A convicted skyjacker, Luciano Porcari, wrote in August that a bomb would "soon be used" on a flight leaving from Los Angeles or Kennedy Airport in New York.

The US Federal Aviation Administration issued an alert in September on the basis of the unconfirmed warning, one of many received by officials each month. Porcari's letter said three bombs existed, one of them in the US. Porcari claimed another was at Orvieto, Italy, said Italian authorities.
