Following months of speculation about which constituency the Fianna Fail leader, Mr Bertie Ahern, would contest in the next general election, it has been decided that he will remain in Dublin Central.

Confirmation of the decision came after last night's meeting of the party's National Executive in Leinster House.

The executive also added Ms Mary Hanafin, daughter of the chairman of the anti divorce campaign, Mr Des Hanafin, to the party ticket in Dun Laoghaire.

The name of broadcaster and public relations executive, Mr David Harvey, did not emerge in last night's considerations.
