London - Police arrested 81 animal rights campaigners yesterday after they broke into a facility owned by the German chemicals and drugs giant Bayer in Stoke Poges, Buckinghamshire.

The activists were held on suspicion of burglary and intent to commit criminal damage, police said. "They smashed ground floor windows, overturned cabinets and destroyed machinery", a police spokeswoman said.
