Customs officers seized a quarter of a million cigarettes and 250kg of roll-your-own tobacco with an estimated value of £75,000 in two raids in Cork last night.

The first raid was on a retail outlet on the northside, where 20,000 smuggled cigarettes were seized. In a follow-up search of a shopkeeper's home, 210,000 cigarettes and the tobacco were discovered.

A man is being questioned by Customs officers and a file is being prepared for prosecution.
