Cairo - At least 41 people were killed and 80 injured when a train lost its brakes yesterday and derailed in northern Egypt south-east of Alexandria, police said.

Police said that passengers riding on the roof of the train had apparently tampered with its brakes and the driver of the train was unable to stop as it approached the Kafr al-Dauwar station.
