Srinagar - At least 17 suspected Muslim militants were among 25 people killed in a series of violent incidents in Indian-administered Kashmir yesterday, a police spokesman said.
Twelve guerrillas were killed after they crossed the Line of Control (LoC) near the town of Sonapindi in Kupwara district, 110 km north of Srinagar, Kashmir's summer capital. Police said Indian border guards and soldiers had asked the men to surrender but they opened fire. A further two suspected militants were killed early yesterday as they crossed the LoC near the town of Tangdar around 20 km from the first incident.
In another incident suspected Muslim militants gunned down three members of a family in Garoora, near the town of Bandipora, 60 km north of Srinagar, police said.
