An Irish trawler man and a Dutch seaman were in hospital in Cork last night after two separate accidents about 80 miles off the south-west coast.
At about 3 p.m. the trawler Achilles, fishing out of Castletownbere, radioed that one of its crew had badly damaged his hand. As an RAF Sea King helicopter was on its way from Wales, a second message was relayed by a Dutch merchant ship Ocean that one of its crew had suffered serious head injuries. Both men were airlifted to the Cork University Hospital, where last night the Castletownbere fisherman was comfortable while the Dutch seaman was in a serious condition.
