E-learning company Thomson NetG is close its research centre in Limerick with the loss of 170 jobs.

The company said the closure is part of a restructuring of its global business operations. The closure will be on a phased basis beginning in January and concluding in mid March.

Only last year the company was awarded a €12 million IDA backed expansion at the centre in Plassey Technology Park, Limerick.

But since then the company has been badly affected by the downturn in investment in the IT sector.

NetG specialises in designing on line learning solutions for business and technical training.
