Every time a lorry rounds the bend, it feels like a minor earthquake inside All That Glisters, the tiny store and workshop on Ladywell Corner in Thomastown, Co Kilkenny, where Sue Bowden and her team make an assortment of jewellery using precious stones and crystals.
They use Kilkenny and Connemara marble to great effect too, but what makes us always stop for a gander is the collection of sizeable fossils, rocks and minerals she keeps in stock, almost incidentally, on the bottom shelf. This is a great place to find presents for budding geologists - ammonites, trilobites, brachiopods, crinoids, molluscs and suchlike - as well as necklaces, bracelets and earrings made of gemstones.
