FORMER BRITISH motor sports star John Surtees became the first person to drive a sports car the length of the Channel Tunnel - but he said "speed was the last thing involved".
Surtees, the only person to have won World Championships on both two and four wheels, said he was unable to reach the high speeds of his racing heyday as he was forced to keep within the tunnel's 50km/h speed limit.
The racing veteran drove a Ginetta G50EV electric sports car prototype made by British car marque Ginetta along the service tunnel, which was opened for the first time to mark Eurotunnel's 15th anniversary.
