Spyker only option for Saab
GENERAL MOTORS chairman and acting chief executive Ed Whitacre has said luxury carmaker Spyker is the only remaining party with which GM is negotiating for the sale of Saab. Whitacre repeated that barring a deal, GM would close Saab.
In his first full QA session in his current role, Whitacre also said GM’s deal to sell a majority stake in its China joint venture to partner SAIC was decided before he took on the new role.
Whitacre said the board and former chief executive Fritz Henderson had disagreed on whether to keep Opel. GM reversed a decision to sell a majority stake in Opel.
Return to F1 for Schumacher?
SEVEN-TIME Formula One champion Michael Schumacher has been spending a lot of time racing karts in his hometown of Kerpen, near Cologne in Germany. After three years off the track, it’s reported the 40-year-old German has agreed a deal to race for Mercedes in F1 next season, although he has so far refused to confirm or deny the rumours.
Yesterday, fellow German F1 driver Timo Glock said he was sure Schumacher will return.
“There’s still a lot of speculation, but in the end he is a crazy race driver,” said Glock.
“It’s not enough for him to just do go-kart races, or go to the Race of Champions at the end of the year. The flame is still there, it’s still burning within him, and it will be great for Formula One if he comes back.”
