BRITISH menswear retailer Hackett was extremely disappointed with plans by its landlord to allow a restaurant open next to the upmarket shop on South Anne Street, off Grafton Street in Dublin city centre. The site was developed by Paddy McKillen, of Nama-challenge fame, and solicitor Ivor Fitzpatrick.
Hackett said that the duo now “appear to have given up on their vision of a continuous retail frontage” at the scheme, which would have given the retailer a critical mass of shoppers. They also understood that that part of the street would be pedestrianised, something which has yet to happen. An Bord Pleanála agreed with the retailer and rejected the restaurant plan, declaring it contrary to the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.
