Interiors auction at Adam’s


Adam’s is gearing up for a series of pre-Christmas auctions beginning with an “Interiors” auction. Viewing begins in the St Stephen’s Green saleroom begins on Thursday ahead of the auction next Sunday, November 24th when over 600 lots will go under the hammer.

Highlights include a collection of Irish 18th-century silver with a strawberry dish made by the Cork silversmith Robert Goble, dating to the reign of Queen Anne (1702-1714), estimated at €5,000-€8,000; and a silver oval tureen engraved with the arms of “Macnamara of Doolin and Ennistymon House, County Clare”, €8,000-€10,000.

A Regency carved giltwood convex girandole mirror is €12,000-€16,000; an Irish George II giltwood pier mirror, made circa 1740, and described as “a fine example of 18th century craftsmanship” is €6,000-€10,000.

A carved marble portrait bust of Marie Antoinette by Fortunato Petrelli (1822-1893) is €5,000-€8,000; younger buyers might be more interested in an French Art Deco piece by Georges Coste, made circa 1925, of "a reclining nude resting against a classical plinth" carved from white Carrara marble (64 cm long, 14 cm deep and 28 cm high) for €1,500-€2,500.

Among the many pictures there's a wonderful pair of Victorian oils, Terriers Ratting by Edward Armfield, €2,000- €3,000; and a rather different pair, Lord and Lady Templemore by Florence Upton, €3,000-€4,000.
