Auctions stir the market

THE MARKET may be quiet but there’s still stuff selling, as several of our stories this week show. And auctions are ticking over. Cloghala House, in Dungarvan, Co Kilkenny, a six-bed on about nine acres of parkland, sold for €335,000 through ERA Donohoe Properties. The detached period house, which needs refurbishment, had a pre-auction AMV of €350,000.

The house, which dates from the 1800s, is just outside the village of Dungarvan, about 17km from Kilkenny .

Not everyone wants to go to auctions, but a successful auction may tempt others to go to market – or at least give vendors some idea of values in their area.

The house on the right at 127 Booterstown Avenue is on the market for €950,000 and agent Robert Lawson of Lisney is confident it will make a good price: last week, North’s achieved €880,000 for a house around the corner on Booterstown Park – it made €130,000 over its AMV. (Lisney’s Lawson also sold a house on Booterstown Park a little over a year ago for over its AMV of €1.95m.)
