The developers of a new apartment complex in Galway are billing the development as being "near the city and the sea".

Crescent Court on Fr Griffin Road is five minutes on foot from the Claddagh basin and seven from the city centre, while it is also within walking distance of the seaside resort of Salthill.

The development has been designed by the internationally acclaimed architectural firm, A & D Wejchert, which has been responsible for the Ailwee Caves Visitors' Centre in Co Clare, Smithfield village in Dublin, Galway County Hall and the Apparition Chapel at Knock, Co Mayo. It has also handled Blanchardstown Town Centre in Dublin.

The architects are working with J J Rhatigan, building contractors, to construct a mixture of two and three-bedroom apartments, with underground car-parking for 110 cars and landscaped open space.

Many of the apartments will be very spacious, when completed, at 1,119 sq ft for the largest, and starting at 600 sq ft.

Already, 11 of the first phase of 24 apartments have been snapped up. Prices range from £175,000 (#222,204) to £220,000 (#279,342), depending on size. The apartments will be finished with solid hardwood floors, panelled doors, and beamed ceilings, double glazed windows, and some will have balconies and verandahs. The building's external elevation will be completed with naturally cut limestone.

The project team says that over two years have gone into the planning of Crescent Court. There is tremendous emphasis on light and space, and the builders say the best quality of materials is being used to minimise maintenance costs later on. Apart from Salthill and the city, the development is close to leisure facilities: Galway Lawn Tennis Club, Galway's 18-hole golf club and the new GAA Pearse Stadium are all three minutes drive away.

Video security and other security systems are provided for in the plans, and a management company has been formed for the property. Further details are available from the agents Cunningham Auctioneers or O'Donnellan and Joyce.
