Traffic Gripe

Pick a gripe, any gripe. Go on, go on. Choose from: cyclists bombing along footpaths, cyclists going through red lights, cyclists going down one-way streets, motorists driving with one hand while the other hand checks text messages, trucks at a complete halt in the middle of the yellow box, delivery vans with flashing lights parked on the busiest streets, taxi drivers collecting and dropping off punters in the middle of the street, poor enforcement of existing laws . . . Need I go on?

As a scooter owner, I find a lot of garda∅ are highly inconsistent in applying the bus-lane law. Like most scooter drivers, I prefer to drive in bus lanes as it's safer, and I'm quite prepared to get caught occasionally as the lesser of two evils. I find the buses are fine, but some aggressive taxi-drivers try and drive right through you. I've only been stopped and told off once in two years, as most sensible garda∅ realise it would be crazy to try and book all the motorcyclists and scooter drivers who use them. So change the law to match the practice and save lives as has been done in other EU countries. Otherwise, it would be better to see them try and enforce the law on motorbike-free lanes so at least all bikers will know where they stand.
