THE Welsh village where Daffyd claims to be the only gay, is a real place called Llanddewi-Brefi and residents there are now calling on the Welsh Assembly to replace their "Welcome to Llanddewi-Brefi" signs, which keep getting stolen by Little Britain fans.
In an exchange that could have been taken from the programme itself, assembly member Elin Jones told local government minister Sue Essex that: "The three village signs for Llanddewi-Brefi have all been stolen and Daffyd's phrase that he is 'the only gay in the village' has been voted the best-ever catchphrase (in a recent poll) which will only increase the village's notoriety. What support can you give the community council in Llanddewi-Brefi in dealing with such international publicity and in possibly having to face permanently replacing their village signs?".
Meanwhile, local residents are perplexed by tourists visiting their village and annoying the local newsagent by constantly asking if he has any copies of Gay Times left. Residents are quick to point out that Daffyd should only have one f and two d's at the end of his name.
Local pub landlady Yvonne Edwards says: "Everyone here wonders why they picked out Llanddewi - do they know the only gay in the village? They seem to know there's a VD clinic in (nearby) Lampeter, so they've done their research.
