VIC Merriman, Chairman of the Arts Council's Theatre Review Steering Committee has said that the theatre chapter of the Three Year Plan will be rewritten on the basis of the Review process; the fruits of the meetings will be published this year under the title Dialogues.
"Financing Irish Theatre", the final meeting in the Arts Council's consultation phase of the Review took place at IMMA on Saturday. The meeting included contributions from Fiach Mac Conghail of Project Arts Centre and Fiona Nolan of the Balcony Belles (who told how the injection of Combat Poverty Horison funding had transformed the fortunes of an inner city community drama group). Gerry Watson of Cothu said that theatre tended to fare less well than other arts disciplines in linking with sponsors. Tony O'Dalaigh added that sponsorship from a named sponsor generally has a lifespan of about five years.
