Twinkranes: guaranted pick me up

It is no surprise that Dublin trio Twinkranes have found a berth at Manchester’s Twisted Nerve

It is no surprise that Dublin trio Twinkranes have found a berth at Manchester’s Twisted Nerve. The label is the domain of Andy Votel, a DJ and graphic artist with a penchant for eclectic sonic booms of the Krautrock variety. On his watch, TN has provided snug lodgings for those making psych-rock, freak-folk and assorted other out-there clatters.

You can only imagine Votel’s delight, then, when he set eyes and ears on these Dubliners, whose psychedelic pop does more than merely ape what such touchstones as Silver Apples, United States of America, Suicide and Neu! did before them.

Debut album Spektrum Theatre Snakesis full to the brim with hypnotic rhythms, warped guitars and stunning, edgy grooves. The trio ride these waves with confidence, never allowing high-velocity thumpers like Witch Huntor The Charmerto fall away into the ether.

See them at Dublin’s Button Factory on October 30th as part of this year’s DEAF festival (see page 10), with guest DJ slots from Andy Votel and David Holmes. www.myspace.com/twinkranes
