As sure as eggs are eggs, it’s going to be a busy night here as Subject welcome Detroit techno founding father Juan Atkins (below) back to town. Dublin clubbers have a longstanding fondness for techno’s innovators and orginators, as we’ve seen over the years. In the case of Atkins, we’re talking about someone who was there from Day One and exerted a huge influence on electronic music’s myriad directions.

Along with fellow Belleville High School kids Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson, Atkins' early experiments as Cybotron, Model 500 and Infiniti set the template for thousands to follow, with tracks such as the classic No UFOsstill capable of thrilling and fascinating electronic music fans today. These gloriously minimal and eerie odes to Motor City funk ensured Atkins' rep and ensured a ready audience for appearances in Europe, the and elsewhere.

Support tonight from Pat Hyland and David O’Sullivan.
