Minor Love Rough Trade **

Will Adam Green ever hit the major league? The Moldy Peaches man is now on his sixth solo release, but, aside from one or two trifling hits, he has failed to dominate the anti-folk scene in the same way that artists such as Jeffrey Lewis have.

Green's songs have always been simplistic, but several of Minor Love's tracks border on cutesy, with their acoustic guitar and asinine stream-of-consciousness lyrics. Singer-songwriters such as Jens Lekman pull off self-deprecation with guile and charm, but songs such as the dreadful bedroom-band clamour of Oh Shuckslack any real charisma. Frustratingly, the two most purposeful songs are left until last: Lockoutadds buzz, genuine quirkiness and Mariachi horns to the mix, while You Blacken My Stayis a dark, rich-sounding folk'n'roll rollick. That couple aside, there's little else to remember. www.adamgreen.net
