With something like a three- hour concert on the cards, there’s enough to be going on with here. We are, no doubt, aware that the last time Prince was scheduled to play Dublin he withdrew without notice, leaving his fans – gagging for a good old-fashioned funkathon – high and dry. There are no such issues here, which means that the plugged Greatest Hits show will be that and more. Prince has had more than 30 Top 40 singles, so the hits, as they say, will just keep on coming.

And then there’s 53-year- old Prince himself: elfin-sized with a polar opposite ego, one of the best music artists around, the writer of so many great songs it would be pointless to try listing them, and an artist with an informed and savvy online presence who recently said that the internet is completely over (“they just fill your head with numbers, and that can’t be good for you,” he told a newspaper last year).

Welcome to the new power generation game – at some three hours duration, you are advised to bring along dancing feet and a cushion.
