This is just taking the proverbial biscuit. Since the late 1970s, Liverpool electro-pop act OMD have negotiated their way around a decent tune or two, but English Electric is so weighted with melody lines that humming them is more like a demand than a request. If there's one very minor itch, it's the unashamed debt to Kraftwerk. Metroland is like Europe Endless with a smoother, tighter groove; Dresden is electronic pop distilled from the doorways of Dusseldorf; Kissing the Machine even features a co-write with Kraftwerk's Karl Bartos. What drags it out of the homage/pastiche area is the song craft (by founding members Andy McCluskey and Paul Humphries), which is so ridiculously accomplished that you have no option but to whistle from start to finish.
