I Feel Magic is No Monster Club's 12th album.

Mainstay Bobby Aherne may be one of the most prolific Irish songwriters around, but his quality control remains assured – Aherne is also quite adept at tapping into the kind of inspired naivete that fans of Kevin Ayers, Syd Barrett and Nikki Sudden admire so much.

Yet as Aherne approaches the big 3-0, there’s a levelling off of the skittish bedroom-pop he has become most well known for.

Which means that while songs such as You're the Brains, Lemonade, Dodo, Billy Contorted The Trees, Charity Shop/ Slaughterhouse, and Drinking At The Doldrums stick pretty much to the blueprint, the lyrics display a growing maturity.

With only one bum note (the relentless, self-defeating repetition in Ancient History), I Feel Magic is less cartoon, more drama, and all the better for it.
