Nighthawks club spreads its wings

The organisers of a small Dublin-based arts club are making some big plans for the future. Nighthawks, the collective that has staged monthly gigs at the Cobalt Café on North Great Georges Street since 2008, has recently branched out into recording, radio and festival curating. Headed by part-time playwright Stephen Kennedy, the non-profit collective has organised a five-track EP that is currently on sale from Oxfam on Parliament Street, Dublin, for €5.

All profits from the CD, which was self-financed through Nighthawks gigs, will go to Oxfam Ireland.

The collective will also curate the Mondo Rancho arts stage at this year's Flat Lake Literary Arts festival in Monaghan on June 5th, featuring The Flaws, The Ambience Affair, Elder Roche and more, readings, stand-up comedy, and the performance of Kennedy's play Lennon v McCartney.

There will also be a special one-off radio show on RTÉ Radio 1 tonight at 7.30pm, featuring live performances by acts playing at Flat Lake.

"We set up Nighthawks to give Dublin a top-quality monthly arts club in an intimate setting," Kennedy told The Ticket. "We like to have line-ups that combine well-established and emerging artists. People trust us to entertain them, and we don't let them down."
