‘Nerd’ returns for last appearance

When Apple creator Steve Jobs died last year, more than a few obituarists compared his fame to that of a movie star. It now looks as if he may posthumously take on that role. Magnolia Pictures has announced that it will be screening a “lost interview” with Jobs in US cinemas from next week. Recorded in 1995, the interview was conducted by Robert X Cringely for his superb TV documentary series The Triumph of the Nerds. Only short excerpts appeared in the final programmes.

Meanwhile, Ashton Kutcher is set to play the visionary in a biopic directed by Joshua Michael Stern. Well, Ashton may not be the world’s greatest actor, but you can’t deny that he does look like the man.

There’s more. A competing biopic, based on the best-selling biography by Walter Isaacson, is currently being developed over at Sony.

The triumph of the nerds indeed. Cringely could hardly have been more prescient.
