Trim, Co Meath hosts an unlikely gathering today when Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey, economist David McWilliams and UK-based band The Magic Numbers converge on the town’s GAA centre for the launch of Trim 2025, a scheme that hopes to make the town carbon-neutral in the next 15 years.

The event – itself carbon-neutral, of course – kicks off at 3.30pm, with a talk fromMcWilliams. Later in the evening the entertainment will be provided by acts including Kells natives Ham Sandwich and a headline set by The Magic Numbers, who are in Ireland to film the Other Voicesseries in Dingle, Co Kerry on Sunday.

Organiser Martin Tighe said he was thrilled that such a high-profile act were donating their time and waiving their fee for such an important cause.

“We’re a loosely-knit group of volunteers who just want to burst our way out of uncertainty and current gloom by making good things happen,” he said. “The Magic Numbers in Trim? Even Ham Sandwich is a coup!”
