Most of today’s summer music festivals are bursting at the seams with indie and rock acts, but there was a time when Life’s electronic fare was the norm rather than the exception. While those other ones (Homelands, Hi-Fi) have come and gone, Life is still flying the flag for techno, trance, electro, drum’n’bass and psytrance.
Some of the headline stars for its seventh outing include Brazilian drum’n’bass don DJ Marky (left), the RS and Hessle Audio producer behind tough supersharpshooters such as What You Do With What You Have, Blawan; Berghain techno duo Ben Klock and Marcel Dettmann; and minimal maestro Matthias Tanzmann and Jamie Jones (check out Jones’s Fabric mix for a taste of his style).
Add in a couple of dozen local acts and DJs, the usual festival sideshows and a lovely venue, and you’ve the makings of a fine weekend in the country. JIM CARROLL
