Good things come to those who wait, and it seems that the unwieldily titled Knockanstockan is finally coming into its own as an alternative to the bigger music events screaming for our attention. Small, as they say, is beautiful, and this has kept Knockanstockan on the map for six years.

There’s little doubt that at its start – at the zenith of the Celtic Tiger period, you may recall – this little gem, operated on a volunteer basis, was looked down upon (probably by some people in the media who now bang on about how brilliant it’s always been!). But it has kept its counsel and continued to plug away.

With attendance capped at 5,000, there is much to enjoy here; apart from the sidebar stuff such as poetry, burlesque, film screenings, art trails and family-friendly fare, there’s plenty of cracking music across three days from the likes of Cat Dowling, The Strypes, Windings, EleventyFour, Liz Lawrence, Hush War Cry, Little xs for Eyes, The Gandhis, Riptide Movement, and The Urges. Oh, and about 140 other music acts . . .
