Genre: Jazz

For Giovanni Falzone, the motions of the planets serve as a useful metaphor for the way a group of improvisers can operate. The fortysomething Italian trumpeter's compositions on Pianeti Affini (Kindred Planets) are not therefore some Holstean attempt to express the imagined character of individual planets, but rather a musical meditation on balance and alignment, orbital paths and the pull of gravity.

Fausto Beccaossi’s accordion gives the music an unusual harmonic underpinning, and an unmistakable European flavour, while trombonist Filippo Vignato, bassist Giulio Corini and drummer Alessandro Rossi respond to the trumpeter’s suite of eight tunes with mainstream guts and purpose.

Falzone himself adds other layers with judiciously applied live electronics.
