Free gigs and events continue to fill the summer calendar, as it seems like the gods of the recession have a special place in their hearts for penniless Irish music fans.
The latest clutch of complimentary events to take place around the country includes gigs in Cork and Galway, joining the previously-mentioned JD Roots gig which takes place at the Button Factory on May 18th and for which you can register now at jdroots.ie.
Cork will host the Murphy's-sponsored Little Big Nights Out for the fourth year running from May 4th to 6th. The first Little Big Weekend of the year (two more will follow in August and November) will see five events take place at the city's Beamish Crawford site. The line-up includes The Frank and Walters and The Walls co-headlining a special "vox-swap" gig where they'll trade vocalists and songs, as well as a Human League gig and a contemporary trad session on Sunday afternoon. See littlebignightsout.com for tickets.
Meanwhile, Galway is getting in on the act with three days of free live gigs around the city under the Coors Light Live at the Latin Quarter banner, also taking place on the May Bank Holiday weekend. Hot Chip's Felix Martin, Kíla, Ham Sandwich, Royseven and more will feature.
