Film provides swansong for Lir

They were once tipped by industry insiders to become the next U2 during the mid-1990s, but now the story of Lir has been documented in a new feature that will have its world premiere at the Jameson Dublin Film Festival next month.

Good Cake Bad Cakewas directed by Shimmy Marcus, who previously undertook a similar project with musician Aidan Walsh ( Aidan Walsh: Master of the Universe), as well as directing the features SoulBoyand Headrush, among others.

The Dublin film-maker’s new project tells the story of the band that was founded in the early 1990s and went on to moderate success, before their quiet implosion and fracture.

The film documents what happened during and after the band’s tenure, and where its members have ended up. The February 18th screening will be followed by a Lir gig at The Workman’s Club in Dublin.

“Watching the film shall be a bit of a transcendental experience for the band, before we have to step inside the bubble once again for the show that night,” guitarist Ronan Byrne said.
