The third Record Store Day takes place tomorrow, a worldwide event that seeks to encourage music fans to support their local indie outlet. Last year saw a successful Irish celebration, with scores of people turning up at their local music havens to see in-store performances and avail of bargains. Many of this year’s deals will be one- day exclusives, including a new track by Blur, as well as releases by Beach House, Bright Eyes, Pavement and Villagers.
Fifteen stores will participate in Ireland. Dublin’s Tower Records leads the charge with its day of free in-stores: acts such as O Emperor, Villagers, Adrian Crowley, Stornoway and Funeral Suits will perform from noon onwards. Villagers will also play Road Records, along with Patrick Kelleher and others, and there also will be a Road compilation limited to 200 copies made available on the day.
The newly re-opened All City Records will host a talk and performance by techno DJ Sunil Sharpe, and Celtic Note will host short sets from John Spillane, Mary Coughlan and more.
Outside Dublin, E2 Music in Mullingar, Co Westmeath will see The Aftermath, Julie Feeney and more play sets from noon onwards. Kilkenny’s Rollercoaster Music promises freebies, special offers, DJ sets and performances by Oliver Cole, R.S.A.G. and Clive Barnes. recordstoreday.com
