Former Giveamanakick guitarist Steve Ryan has done his neighbours (and his eardrums) a favour by swapping the blistering post-rock blitz of his former guise for a more demure line of attack. Windings, the side project that's become Ryan's full-time endeavour, sounds as much influenced by slack college rock bands (Pavement, The Lemonheads) as it does subdued folk. You Did, These Horses Also Ranand the laidback strum-and-jangle of Brain Fluidare more instantaneous that the burbling, time-expending melodies of Apologiaand I Can't Breathe. In that respect, Windings seems like an apt name for a band with a debut album that's both tightly coiled and chilled out, but one that perhaps requires a little more refinement to be truly special.
