Followers of Swedish husband and wife duo Andreas Weliin and Mariam Wallentin will know what to expect from their third album. Theirs is a beautifully pitched, often ominous and always emotional folky sound, one that twists and turns like that body of water which gives this compilation of two limited-edition vinyl EPs ( Retinaand Iris) its title. Even though we're dealing with two very distinct EPs, there's still considerable atmospheric and compositional cohesion and overlap between the tracks. Retina's five cuts are amplified by choral reverb and tribal essence supplied by the Schola Cantorum Reykjavík Chamber Choir (who featured on Björk's Medulla). The Iristracks are anchored by Wallentin's steelpan drum experiments, which adds another percussive layer to the duo's already rich, dense palatte. See wildbird sandpeacedrums.com
