Blow Your Head: Diplo Presents Dubstep, Mad Decent***

That it's Diplo who curates this collection of dubsteps's various strains, breeds and offshoots is no surprise. The globetrotting DJ and producer has previously produced sturdy, reliable guides to baile funk and other bassy dancefloor tribes, as well as working with M.I.A. and Santigold, so you can see why dubstep has grabbed his attention. Dubstep was born and bred in London, but this particular sound of the underground has become a fresh, bass-booming ingredient in soundclashes worldwide. Though dubstep can be heard ducking and diving down new alleys on an almost weekly basis, Diplo does do well to get the measure of its width and depth with tracks from James Blake, Zomby, Untold and his own U Don't Like Me,with Lil Jon shouting the odds over the boom.
