Trax Re-Edited Harmless***
Back in the day, Trax was the portal to Chicago house, a label that introduced the world to releases from Frankie Knuckles, Mr Fingers, Farley Jackmaster Funk, Jamie Principle and others. A quarter of a century on from the label's heyday, contemporary producers have been drafted in to rework the tracks under the watchful eye of house historians Frank Broughton and Bill Brewster. The new productions tend to be in one of two camps: some producers pay enormous reverence to the source material, while others go wild on a comprehensive rejig of the track. Irish producer John Daly's re-edit of Mr Fingers' Can You Feel It?is as hooksome and spiritual as the rest of Daly's work, while Kink's take on Jack Frost's Clap Me and JD Twitch's version of Mr Lee's Pump Up Chicago are 21st-century bangers.
