KATE NASH

Do-Wah-Doo, Fiction**

Given how irritating Kate Nash’s blatant Lily Allen- meets-Regina Spektor shtick had become by the time she finished promoting her last album, one might have hoped she’d use those two years out of the spotlight to go away and dream it all up again.

She hasn’t. If you couldn’t stand her annoying mockney vocals last time around, ain’t nothing going to change your mind here. Sorry.

PAUL WELLER

No Tears Left to Cry, Island ***

On the first single from his Wake Up the Nationalbum, Weller mixes a little of what you'd expect (Motown, The  Small Faces) with much of what you mightn't (strong hints of both Elvis Costello's Man Out of Timeand Ike and Tina's River Deep, Mountain High). Who said the Modfather had no influences left to plunder?

BANANARAMA

Love Don't Live Here, Fascination**

Love don’t live here anymore. Two middle-aged ladies have apparently taken over the lease. Watch them sing! Watch them dance! Watch them gyrate! (The exits have been sealed. There is no escape.)

ERIC ECKHART

Happy ***

Eric Eckhart is an American who lives in Berlin and makes music with a cast of largely Irish musicians (including Dave Hingerty and Nina Hynes). He’s 41 and a self- proclaimed late bloomer. In fact, according to his website, Eckhart had a quarter-life crisis seven years ago. By my reckoning then, Eric can expect to live until he is 136 years old. One to watch out for. SELENA GOMEZ & THE SCENE

Naturally Hollywood Records ***

Vampy Disney starlet Selena Gomez reckons she learned everything she knows about show business from her stint on Barney Friends. Suffice to say, I must have missed that series.
