Kid Sister

Though this is the debut from Melisa Young, the Chicago rapper and would-be diva seems to have been around for ages. Strike this down to a long gestation period spent accumulating love from the music blogs, attracting premier league support for her cause (Kanye West, A-Trak) and slowly tweaking her sound. The latter task has seen Kid Sister ditch the fierce, booming rhythms of her early runs for a mix of Chi-Town house and à-la-mode electropop fixings. It's an interesting, if far from groundbreaking, collage of sounds, especially when you regard the more incendiary sabre-rattling of some of her peers. That said, there's much to like, if not quite love, in such fun and games as Right Hand Hi, You Ain't Really Down(Roxanne Shante may note with raised eyebrows) and Daydreaming.
