David Lynch

Crazy Clown Time Sunday Best ****

Crazy Clown Time Sunday Best****

Though this is regarded as Lynch's solo debut, his involvement in music has been long and varied, from collaborating with Angelo Badalamenti to John Neff. This is a musical distillation of the Lynchian aesthetic, echoing with a romantic (and distinctly American) eeriness, with references from Kraftwerk (Strange and Unproductive Thinking) and Tricky and Massive Attack ( So Glad, Noah's Ark)to, literally, Karen O, who brings an unsettling squall to Pinky's Dream. The album is a mixture of menacing electronica ( Good Day Today)and dark, twisted country (Speed Roadster), and he uses his voice interestingly, from a whisper to a scream. These songs yearn for a visual narrative, with Football Gamesounding like Josh T Pearson trapped within Inland Empire. When Lynch sings "you'd better run baby, I hope you can", you will be as unsettled as you are intrigued. See davidlynch.com
