This endearing collection is subtitled "The Best of the Train Wreck Years 2002-2007", the period in which the venerable old hand Chip Taylor took young Austin-born violinist Carrie Rodriguez under his wing. Rodriguez didn't even sing onstage when she enlisted, but Taylor coaxed her into becoming a striking foil for his mellow, measured voice and his intelligent, observant songs of life's little pleasures and pains. Rodriguez has since gone her own interesting way but this 13-track retrospective, plus four new songs, proves that, together, they had a rare chemistry that enabled them to create something quite special.
