We Can't Fly Wall of Sound **

Anyone expecting the debut album from Aeroplane to be overflowing with cosmic disco wig-outs, as demonstrated on an array of hitherto fantastic remixes, will be left scratching his or her head. Sure, there are a couple of fine grooves here, but there's also a far too much clunk and clutter. Conspiracy theorists will point to the recent split in the ranks, which saw the departure of Stephen Fasano and left Vito De Luca as Aeroplane's sole pilot. Regardless, We Can't Flyis hindered and hampered by messy attempts at rock (the awful The Point of No Return) and pop (the atrocious Good Riddance) rather than the bold, sweeping and swaggering flights of imagination with which Aeroplane made their name.
