Last seen on cinema screens in the dire Swept Away (2002), directed by her husband Guy Ritchie, Madonna has turned director with Filth and Wisdom.
Described as a low-budget British comedy, it will have its world premiere at next month's Berlin Film Festival. The cast includes Richard E Grant, Stephen Graham (This Is England) and Eugene Hutz, the Ukrainian actor from Everything Is Illuminated. Hutz and his gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello perform three songs on the soundtrack. The screenplay is by Dan Cadan, who wrote the liner notes for Madonna's GHV2 (Greatest Hits, Vol 2) album and directed the Wonderbra ad in which a gorilla performs the drum solo on Phil Collins's In the Air Tonight.
