The above aquatint view of Dublin Bay from the North Strand shows just how much the capital and its environs have changed over the past 200 years. The picture dates from the early 19th century and comes from Mrs A. Plumptre's Narrative of a Residence in Ireland, 1814-15.
Among the parts of Dublin which have radically altered is Clontarf and its castle, once home to the Vernon family. The castle is now a hotel and will be host to an antiques fair tomorrow, at which this aquatint will be for sale. It will be among the wide variety of items offered at this event, along with a free valuation service for collectors' items. The fair runs from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
