Woody’s choice

Film directors often have peculiar views of their own work. It wouldn't be all that astonishing to discover that Martin Scorsese's favourite among his pictures was Bringing Out the Dead.

Still, there were a few surprises in the top six that Woody Allen revealed to the

Times

last week. The Woodster’s choices were as follows:

The Purple Rose of Cairo, Match Point, Bullets Over Broadway, Zelig, Husbands and Wives

, and

Vicky Cristina Barcelona

. Interestingly, in an interview on BBC radio, Barry Norman recently declared that

Match Point

might be Allen’s very worst film. As the pale aliens from

Stardust Memories

might say: “What about your early funny ones?”
