Lion King roars back in 3D

REEL NEWS:What do we make of the fact that The Lion King 3D– still fresh after 17 years — has topped the US box office for the last two weeks?

At time of writing, the reissue has soaked up $61 million dollars and is now sitting at No 12 in the all-time US charts. A belated place in the top 10 now seems close to certain. Certainly, those of us who felt that 3D was on the wane will have to swallow hard. More depressing still, the success seems to demonstrate the dearth of decent contemporary family movies about the place.
