ENCOUNTER MEATH: Toradh Gallery, Ashbourne, Co Meath Mon-Fri 9.30am- 5pm Feb 10-Mar 10 01-8358014Over the past nine months, Dublin-based photographer Dominique Davoust has documented aspects of life in Oldcastle and Ashbourne, two towns on either side of the Boyne in Co Meath. He was commissioned by the county arts office.

A series of 12 portraits of individuals in the midst of their habitual surroundings provides a cross-section of the broader community.

Davoust, who was born in Sweden to French parents, grew up in Lebanon and began working as a photographer in 1978, traveling around the Middle East for news agencies before settling in Paris and, more recently, Dublin, devoting himself to commercial and personal projects. His images are characterised by his penchant for extremes of colour, something he achieves not by manipulating the images afterwards but in devising the set-up of each photograph to begin with. His 2005 exhibition The Luas Chronicle followed the path of the Luas through Dublin City in a series of panoramic photographs.
