SAVATH & SAVALAS Golden Pollen Anti ****

What began when prolific Prefuse 73 man Guillermo Scott Heron decided to pay homage to his family's roots in Catalonia has turned, over the course of a couple of lovely albums (Apropa't was particularly enchanting), into Heron's most affable sideline. The previous albums were collaborations with Catalan singer-songwriter Eva Puyelo Muns, but Golden Pollen sees Heron taking over at the microphone for a series of Tropicália-inspired psychedelic pop gems, all gently airbrushed with electronic oohs and aahs. It's perhaps the most sonically realised Savath & Savalas release to date, with producer John McEntire making the most of Heron's knack for crafting simple yet alluring soundscapes and tints. Golden Pollen is hugely evocative. The pastoral textures and Heron's soft voice make for an album brimming with atmosphere, ambient swells and charming, soulful depths. www.myspace.com/savathysavalas JIM CARROLL

LAWRENCE Lowlights from the Past and Future Mule Electronic ****

It's not hard to imagine Lawrence slaving away in his rain-lashed, down-at-the-heel Hamburg studio late at night. Over the past decade, the German producer provided a series of gloriously introspective electronic music releases, and his fourth album, which confusingly includes some of his recent remix work, again showcases his ability to create melancholic, evocative grooves. Lawrence achieves this on the subtle piano keys of Spark and the heart-flutteringly beautiful melodies of Further. And there are signs that he doesn't take himself or his music too seriously, deliverying a jolly, sweeping-chord remix of Superpitcher's Happiness and cheekily taking "inspiration" from the spooky hook of Moby's Go for his version of Antonelli's The Morning.
